Large Scale Extinction Mapping
Facilitating the 2MASS database and parallel computing techniques we are
creating large scale extinction maps.
See here for our 14400square degree map of the
entire Galactic Plane created using star counts.
Extinction Map of the Galactic Anticenter
Recently we have applied the colour excess technique (<J-H> and
<H-K>) to create a 8001square degree extinction map with 4arcmin
resolution of the Galactic Anticenter region (see image below). The area of the
map encompasses many large molecular clouds such as Orion, Perseus, Taurus,
Auriga, Monoceros, Camelopardalis and Cassiopeia. See our paper for all the details. You can also
download the FITS.GZ
version of the map in Galactic coordinates. (We have now
put in the correct coordinate system into the file!)
